At Therapeia, every one of our highly qualified therapists has extensive training, skills and experience. As dedicated healers, all of our therapists care deeply about their work and their clients, taking the time to understand your areas of stress and pain to create a customized massage session to help you relax and feel better. Each massage on our menu is a therapeutic session.
"Therapeutic" is used to emphasize that our goal is to profoundly affect your physical state, as well as your sense of overall wellness and health. When you have a massage at Therapeia, we're not only trying to make you feel good, but also to bring about a significant positive change in your body and state of mind. Massage works by increasing the exchange of oxygenated blood and waste products in the cells, allowing cells to flush toxins, heal and recover faster. Restoring the body to a more balanced state results in an increased feeling of vitality, relaxation and energy.

At Therapeia, we have observed that benefits from hot stone massage therapy far exceed the typical claims. In addition to being extremely relaxing, it is a highly effective combination of hydrotherapy and massage. Hydrotherapy is used universally in therapeutic settings to reduce muscular pain, increase circulation and encourage the elimination of toxicity in muscle tissue.
When combined directly with massage, the heat of the warm stones becomes a powerful therapeutic strategy. The heat and pressure mobilize connective tissue (fascia), releasing trigger points and adhesions in a comfortable and efficient way. The broad pressure of the stones makes deeper work less intense for the client to receive, allowing the therapist to achieve greater results.

Massage is possibly the most effective self-care for pregnant women. Improving the condition of the mother inherently improves the condition and well-being of the baby. Every stage of pregnancy has its concerns and complaints, and our therapists can help address them with this specialized massage treatment. Prenatal training gives our therapists the tools to safely address the low back pain, shoulder stress, swelling and balance issues common with pregnancy. A prenatal massage consists of specialized techniques of Swedish massage with specific consideration for the comfort of the mother.
Studies of pregnancy and massage reveal that massage therapy can reduce cortisol levels, back and leg pain, obstetric complications, labor pain and, most notably, premature birth rates. One study found that foot massage was significant in stimulating fetal activity following the session.
While prenatal massage is suggested for nearly all moms, the safety and comfort of mother and baby are always paramount. Please acquire a note from your caregiver for appointments made in the first trimester. Preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and other complications also require a note.

One of the most subtle and yet profoundly powerful treatments available at Therapeia, cranial-sacral therapy helps regulate the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. The brain, spinal column and the fluid surrounding them make up the dural system, which is separated from the rest of your body by its own membrane. The dural fluid has its own pulse, different from your heart's rhythm. Cranial-sacral techniques work to detect the dural pulse and normalize the rhythm with gentle manipulation of the head, neck and sacrum. The treatment feels like the therapist is gently cradling your head.
Cranial-sacral work can be especially beneficial for clients with history of trauma to the head or sacrum. After a session, many people report experiencing relief from migraines, headaches, jaw tension and temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Cranial-sacral therapy is also sometimes used to address emotional and psychological issues. It does not typically involve other modalities like Swedish and deep tissue, although a short session can be included at the end of a classic therapeutic massage.

Originating in India and influenced by the ancient medicine of ayurveda, Thai massage incorporates yoga and other Eastern healing modalities. The technique encourages the energy in your body to balance, resulting in relaxation and increased range of motion, stamina and clarity. Think of it as assisted yoga with massage.
The client wears comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and lies on a mat designed for floor massage work; neither oil nor lotion is used. The practitioner applies firm rhythmic compression to the client's body using the hands, forearms and feet. The massage generally follows the sen lines on the body (similar to Chinese meridians or Indian nadis).
A full Thai massage session typically lasts two hours, and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching from head to toe. You can expect to feel both profoundly relaxed and reenergized after your session.
